todays lesson on webpage design

today in lesson we were putting our ideas for our webpage for our artists to work and started to make the webpage. i used i web to do this, i played around with different layouts and have made the top half of my webpage which consists of my artists banner and logo, menu bar, interactive music player for the audience to be able to listen to her music if they want to, search bar for quick navigation to what the audience want to see, twitter and facebook links to follow the artist and also log in the the website as a fan.
i stuck to the colours of black white and red also.

about my banner

the banner i have created consists of a content marker showing where i would have the black and white image of our artist Amelia-lee and also its includes my logo. i have used the colours that we have discussed as being the main colours we want to use for our artist which was black and white as it is simple and we want our artist to be known for and stand out because of her voice not because her gimmicky banners full of mad colours and so on. i made this banner in gimp.

location recce's for castle green and drama studio for video

these picture that i have taken are of a location recce for the castle green cafe and the drama studio that we want to use to film our music video. we looked at these places and said they are both appropriate for filming our music video in, but we need to make sure that they are available for us to use when we are wanting to film in them and also with the cafe that they are not having customers in the way of our shots which could cause continuity errors in the shots.

 these images are showing the stage that i went through making my logo saving images of font designs i have made on font space and images from google then importing them into gimp and editing them separately to put them together as my logo.

you can see that i have included the navigation/menu bar the is conventional of web pages, which have interactive buttons to take you to these pages and also hyperlinks to facebook and twitter to follow the artist.

also it shows that the audience can choose to listen to her music player and watch her latest music video when the want to is the want to. also a search bar is there to give convenience and ease to the audience when they want to go to a certain something on her website.

the colours that we have chosen for out artist are also what have been used on the webpage , white background, black and red text. simple as she is a ordinary feminine girl.

logo at the top tell the audience straight away who the artist is (instant recognition).

When Fatima looked at my mood board she said that she understood why i had used each of the pictures i used because it shows the themes of the song and also the way the artist is represented and her background and also how the song lyrics and themes show that she is a normal girl who does also go through guy troubles, falling in love and not being able to tell the person. also the colours used mainly black whites and reds in the pictures of my collage show the genre of music that we as a group are doing (soul/jazz) as they are typically seen in this music genre. she said maybe i could have used an actual image of the real artist (Amy Winehouse) in it, but i had written about her in 'about the mood board' post i had done so does really do the job with out leaning towards our new artists copying the representation of Amy at the moment. she said that my mood boards would be good to attract our target audience and they would relate to it and understand it as it shows the genre well but the pictures denote young adults and meaningful pictures.

shown in these mood boards are pictures which show the feelings portrayed in the song,these are, sadness, love, confusion, and isolation.
also its shows the artist's background, showing she is from London, she is just an ordinary girl, she still has boy troubles even though she is a known artist, she plays the guitar and writes music about how she feels.
also she is unnoticed by the man she loves.

* she falls in love with him but is too shy to tell him or confront him
* he doesn't notice her
* she first sees him once and falls for him, writes about him but doesn't see him for a while
* when she sees him more and more she falls more and more in love with him and when she gets any time she writes about him
* she does minor roles (cleaning, checkout girl etc) to try to earn money, but also see him around, but still he doesn't notice her
* she is sining as he goes past her
* she is performing at the end after cleaning the stage the spotlight is on and she sits there with a guitar and sings
* he comes back to collect something and then sees her singing on the stage, she finishes and notices him, they stare and it ends.

Looking back over first few YR13 lessons

In the first few lessons that we have done based on our music videos, we have looked at different music genres and sub-genres, we have looked at different artists in the different genres and how they are represented in the media world and the music industry.

we chose to use Amy Whinehouse as our artist that we are going to rebrand and we are using her cover of the song, `to know him, is to love him'.

before choosing this artist and song we went through a process of finding songs we individually thought would be good for us to re make and artists to rebrand and we all came up with songs and artists from different genres and after choosing two different choices we thought out what we could do with the video to each track and we made the decision that we would make the best music video for the Amy Whinehouse track.

we had to look at the way our artist is represented at the moment in the music industry and then think out how we are going to totally rebrand our artist and make them stand out in the charts as someone knew in the industry in a way she will sell.

we kept her as an English artist by changed her from the beehive hair, tattoos and crazy makeup and clothing, to a simple girl from a normal life with a very simple style, but who still has the amazingly distinctive voice Amy has.

we looked at conventions of the genre we have chosen, which is soul-jazz, and also the artists in this genre to get ideas of how are music video has to be made for the audience to be interested in it and for it to fit the genre.
